Two of the most posted posters, Azealia Banks and the 1975s Matty Healeycame up on social media this week. Can you believe? The altercation started with Banks disapproving of Charli At one point, Healy’s dental hygiene was questioned. And now Banks is seeking $1 million in damages from Healy. How did we get here?
Technically, Azealia Banks tweeted something positive about Sucker-era Charli XCX. Banks retweeted the video for “Break the Rules,” writing, “Charli used to be soooo beautiful. Uhm. Boaaa, I swear gays make the girls interrogate themselves while they all scrape k off a griddle, eat cold bossa nova and share panties. Tuh.”
Matty Healey responded Defending Charli. “Azealia, you seem to have a blind spot when it comes to your ‘reads’. All the women you attack seem like culturally relevant, attractive, divisive, and kind people. I think this makes you jealous because you are so talented, but everything else about you is a failure. Just rap brother.”
Healy also apparently preemptively defends his fiancée, Gabriette Bechtel. “And at that point, if I see a little Twitter barista say ONE thing about my Gabi, EVER, I will take full advantage of my mental illness and I will dox and fuck you up,” he wrote in a now-deleted tweet. “I act so exaggerated as if I have different standards online because it’s ‘not real’. Well, a damn blow indeed.”
Banks took the bait, saying Gabriette looks like Frankenstein, and accused her and Healy of sharing needles. In another deleted tweet, Healy said he would “hit you so hard I’d get a Guinness world record for the highest rat a rat calling a bitch a wig has ever flown.” Guys, we can’t hit at awards ceremonies! It results in such a severe drain of ideas that the LA River is only now beginning to recover.
Azealia Banks threatened a lawsuitand Healy withdrew. “No, I was just trying to match your vibe, I’m scared, I’m sorry bro, I was just standing up for my friends. I’m not cool lol,” he wrote. Banks also gave Healy advice on preventing gingivitis.
Healy promised to perform less and be in the studio more. “Guys, I don’t have the right kind of intelligence/emotional maturity, etc. For social media, I literally say things that I immediately regret, etc. I basically just stick to music because I’m good at it. Having manic episodes on Twitter at the age of 35 is pretty sad,” he tweeted. So maybe some self-insight came out of all this?
On December 8, Azealia Banks shared a cease and desist order with Healy on Twitter. The letter, dated December 7, is from Wallace J. Collins III of New York City, who confirmed the document’s legitimacy The Hollywood Reporter. “Your attacks on my client’s professional reputation, your overt racist invective, and your most recent threats of physical violence against my client have been well documented since you published them online worldwide,” the letter reads. While Healy has since deactivated his Twitter and deleted the tweets, Banks’ lawyers claim: “Your removal of the harmful attack posts and your admission that your response was inappropriate does not undo the harm, but rather constitutes evidence of an admission of guilt by you .” In addition to ceasing all derogatory and harmful comments, Banks’ attorney is also seeking $1 million in damages.
